Frequently Asked Questions about Skyrich Lithium Iron Phosphate Batteries
What makes Skyrich lithium batteries different from traditional lead-acid batteries?
A: A lead-acid battery is the traditional type of motorcycle battery. They are manufactured using lead and sulfuric acid. They are heavy, bulky and as the acid is traditionally a liquid, can be hazardous.
Skyrich lithium batteries are a new-style motorcycle battery, made from lithium iron phosphate material that contains no lead, mercury, or sulphuric acid. This LiFePO4 chemistry has three key advantages over traditional lead acid batteries;
- They can provide a very large amount of power given their small size and capacity – around 4 times that of an equivalent capacity traditional lead acid battery
- They are very light – around 1/3 the weight of an equivalent capacity lead acid battery
- Their nominal voltage of 12.8V means that they are compatible with standard electrical systems found on motorcycles
Basically this means the difference between a Skyrich lithium battery compared to a traditional lead-acid battery is that they are smaller, lighter and more powerful!
What’s the difference between Skyrich lithium batteries and other lithium batteries? Are they safe?
A: Lithium batteries are very different depending on whether they are powering your mobile phone, electric bike or if they are starting your motorcycle.
Skyrich lithium batteries are lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries and this makes them different in terms of material, voltage, discharge rate, safety, and cycle life. Whilst they are not the lightest lithium battery available they are capable of very high discharge rates relative to size and are 12.8V, compatible with standard motorcycle electrical systems.
LiFePO4 is also widely regarded as one of the safest lithium chemistries. All Skyrich batteries have passed UN38.3, as well as UL lab testing, and have all the necessary certification. They have also passed the CQC quality safety testing of China quality certification centre.
The following video also illustrates key safety advantages when using our lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO₄) compared to other lithium chemistries;
The price of Skyrich lithium batteries are higher than traditional lead-acid batteries, so why should I choose a Skyrich lithium battery?
A: Compared to lead acid batteries, the advantages of Skyrich lithium batteries are as follows:
- Very light weight – 1/3 of normal lead-acid battery
- Maintenance free – no topping up required
- Can be installed in any orientation
- Superb cranking power – cranking current greater than 4 times that of a lead acid battery
- Quick charge acceptance – rechargeable with 10C current
- Low self-discharge – shelf life of more than 1 year
- A stable discharge voltage leads to stable engine performance
Can Skyrich Lithium batteries be used for cars?
A: No. Skyrich Lithium batteries are designed for motorcycles and cannot be directly used for cars.
Can A Skyrich Lithium battery be mounted in any position?
A: Yes, they can be mounted in any position, even upside down.
The dimensions of the Skyrich lithium battery are smaller compared to corresponding lead acid battery, how should I install the battery into the motorcycle firmly?
A: With some of our batteries we provide stick foam sheets or plastic spacers. This job can be finished in a few minutes.
For Full details please refer to the installation guide.
I can’t find the Skyrich equivalent to my traditional battery model?
A: If you cannot find a suitable Skyrich battery please contact us to discuss your requirements.
Can I use a lead-acid battery charger to charge a Skyrich lithium battery?
A: Yes, however please ensure that the charging voltage is between 14V and 15V. Please see the charging section for further information.
The capacity of a Skyrich lithium battery is lower than a traditional lead-acid battery, so how can a Skyrich lithium battery perform better?
A: Skyrich lithium batteries, designed with patented technology, are made with extremely high energy density lithium iron phosphate material. These batteries can release energy at a very high rate relative to their size; meaning a Skyrich battery has a cranking current greater than 4 times that of an equal capacity lead acid battery.
Can I use a Skyrich lithium battery normally in low-temperatures?
A: Skyrich lithium batteries cranking performance will be degraded as temperature drops. However, they still react to cranking under -10℃.
If your Skyrich Lithium battery fails to start on first crank, that first start has warmed the battery, and the second attempt will be much stronger, and so on until you get a good start.
Due to our low resistance formulation, the performance of Skyrich lithium batteries in cold conditions is better than other brand lithium batteries.
At -5℃ most users can start the motorcycle on their first attempt.
If the temperature drops below -5℃, you may need to turn your motorcycles lights on (this warms the battery up) anywhere from 30 seconds to 5 minutes depending on how cold it is. This will ensure your motorcycle will start first time and help protect the battery for longer performance.
Why we say the Skyrich Lithium battery can save fuel?
A: The voltage of Skyrich Lithium battery is 13V, and stable. It can improve the efficiency of spark plugs, producing bigger sparks. The fuel will then be burnt more efficiently. Kinetic energy increases the engine torque, which can improve engine performance, ultimately improving fuel-efficient.
Can I take my Skyrich battery with me if I travel by plane?
A: The Skyrich batteries on this website all fall below 100Wh (Watt hours) so in most cases you should be able to take them in your hand luggage, but not in baggage in the hold. Please check in advance with your airline as they may have their own policy on this in place. You may want to reference the CAA guidelines here.
